Short vita

Sebastian v. Bomhard (born 1961) is the CEO of SpaceNet AG, which he founded in 1993. His main focus is on corporate strategy and further growth through new products and solutions, as well as acquisitions and new co-operations. In addition, von Bomhard manages the business of most SpaceNet subsidiaries.

Before founding SpaceNet, the graduate mathematician worked as a freelance IT management consultant, software developer and journalist for various IT magazines. In the 1980s, Sebastian v. Bomhard studied mathematics and logic in Heidelberg, Berlin and Vienna. He received his Master of Science degree from the University of Vienna for his work on pseudorelative complementary lattices.

Since the beginning of the Internet era in Germany, Sebastian von Bomhard has been involved in Internet politics and on important industry committees. He founded the non-profit organisation MUC.DE e.V., which has been working to promote the Internet in Munich since 1992. He has been a member of the Supervisory Board of DENIC eG, the registry for German .de domains, since its foundation. He was its chairman from 1998.

Since 2016, Sebastian von Bomhard, together with eco - Association of the Internet Industry, has been taking legal action against German data retention and has thus triggered a major wave in the internet industry. On 20 September 2022, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) overturns data retention and declares it to be contrary to EU law.

In doing so, von Bomhard has brought about a decision that will be groundbreaking for future legislation in European countries.

Internet pioneer Sebastian von Bomhard, honoured by eco as a "pillar of the Internet", is the publisher of two books: "World Wide What? - Anecdotes and bizarre facts from the pioneering days of the German Internet" and "25 years of the Internet in Germany: a quarter of a century of new territory". Since 2013, the SpaceNet Award, a competition for short stories and photos initiated by him, has been presented every two years.

He is a member of the media circle of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) and the commission of the media and ITC working groups of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Upper Bavaria.
